Competition versus Collaboration

In a shift, schools in New York City will share their best practices, seeing each other as allies not rivals.

Should schools and universities view each other as competitors or collaborators?

In the brick and mortar world, education institutions compete for money, teaching resources and good quality students, which ultimately leads to ranking competition.

In the world of Internet, things are a little bit different. It is possible for universities to share both teachers and students. That is, there is not contractual exclusivity of teaching and learning resources to a particular institution (YET).

In the future, however, would there be a Google for university, one single ecosystem to host all educational resources? I do not know that answer. I am skeptical if that day is to come, would that be a good news to all?
